Round 3 of the @southcoastkarting Summer Championship was definitely a day to remember! 🌧️🏁
Practice / Qualifying wasn’t great because the kart was really slow, but when it started raining it was hard to compare to how they usually are. Qualifying was soaking wet. I kept it on the track but the pace of the kart kept me so so so far off my normal wet pace and I got held up on my last lap, so I finished 6th in my group. I was told after it’s the kart to avoid! 😂
In the Pre B Final I started at the back and worked my way up to 2nd. Then I got a 5-second penalty that I have no idea what it was for. The Marshall said was for contact but me or any other drivers on track with me could confirm it, but luckily I only dropped to 3rd with the gap I built.
That meant starting P3 in the B Final. I knew I had to win to make the A Final, so I got to the front early and won the race by 15 seconds with a fastest lap of 42.2.
Starting last in the A Final meant there was lots of work to do. I kept making passes until I caught the front group. I got pushed off while trying to pass for 4th (back to 6th) but managed to fight back. With everything that had happened during the day, I decided not to risk anything as I knew the driver in-front had a penalty for forcing me off so I stayed put and brought it home in P3. 🥉
Congratulations to Jackson and Quinton too. It was awesome to make & share the podium with them after we all raced indoors together last year.
Loads of overtakes today, which means even more money raised for the fundraiser! Thanks to everyone for the support. 💙 💚
