DRS - ROUND 1 GYG

Paramedics to Podium!

My first race in the Daniel Ricciardo Series at Glan Y Gors Kart Circuit was definitely one to remember!

At the start, the track was damp. In my first practice session, I just focused on learning the track and staying in control.

In the second practice, I started to find some good speed, but there were some really strong cadets in my group with lots of experience, so I knew it was going to be tough.

Qualifying didn’t go how I wanted. The rain got much heavier just as we went out, and I was trying hard just to stay on track. If you went off, that was pretty much your race over. I know I could have done better, but I ended up 14th out of 18.

In the heats, I felt more confident in the wet. On the first lap, I made up 7 places, but on lap 2, a kart had spun ahead. As I was approaching it to go round they retuned to track in front of me! I tried to avoid it, but they moved in front and couldn’t miss them. I crashed hard and I went off track. My knee and arm really hurt, and the marshals came over quickly. The race was red flagged, and the paramedics took me away in an ambulance, so that was the end of my heat. (Sorry mum)

After missing that race, I was cleared to race again in the Pre B Final, but I had to start from the back. I just focused on one kart at a time, had some good battles, and managed to gain 9 places. 🙂

Because I didn’t score points in the heats (injury), I started the Main B Final in 13th. The weather started to change again, so I had to be careful and not make any mistakes. I pushed as hard as I could, had some great battles, and managed to climb 10 places to finish P3 and win a trophy! 🏆

Overall, I’m really happy with how it ended after everything that happened, but I know I can still do even better next time.

Congratulations to Gillen Townshend on the win! Had a stellar day!
